Financial Analyst
About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Financial Analyst with significant experience in the residential homebuilding industry. This role is essential for our organization as it directly supports financial performance analysis, reporting, and strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the builder industry, financial reporting, and forecasting processes, with a high level of attention to detail and the ability to present data effectively to leadership. Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
- Develop and present financial performance summaries to senior management
- Monitor key financial metrics and perform variance analysis
- Develop annual budgets in collaboration with department heads
- Create financial forecasts and update them regularly based on actual performance
- Identify and analyze trends to improve financial planning
- Conduct cost-benefit analyses for new projects and investments
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making
- Perform financial modeling and scenario analysis
- Identify financial risks and develop mitigation strategies
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards
- Maintain and oversee the general ledger
- Ensure all financial transactions are recorded accurately and timely
- Reconcile account balances and bank statements
- Manage accounts payable and receivable processes
- Ensure timely invoicing and payments
- Monitor aging reports and follow up on overdue accounts
- Lead the month-end and year-end closing processes
- Prepare and review journal entries and account reconciliations
- Ensure financial statements are completed accurately and on time
Requirements:
- Residential homebuilder experience – industry experience and employer understanding is crucial to meet all requirements. We will not consider applicants without builder experience.
- 5-7 years’ experience in a similar role, specifically with a residential home builder
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
- High-level accountant with proven expertise
- Technologically savvy – comfortable and confident with our systems and processes
- Highly organized, with the ability to close month-end efficiently
- Ability to build reports and present data effectively to the leadership team
- Consistency and a strong attention to detail, including dates and managing forecasting information
- Capable of spotting problems and bringing them to attention proactively
- Experience working closely with CFOs and senior leadership
- Advanced Excel skills including creating formulas, pivot tables, graphs, data manipulation and analysis, conditional formatting, macros, and index matching
- Strong ability to review data and organize it in a meaningful way
- High-level analytical skills
- Self-driven and takes initiative, with a willingness to ask questions when unclear about a task or process
- Able to work collaboratively with teams to drive process improvements and deliver the final product on time and with accuracy
- Experience with QuickBooks Online, Sage 100 Contractor, Outlook, and MS Teams
- Work hours must coincide with Pacific Time Zone, with a start time between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM, Monday through Friday. Must be available throughout the working day to create ad hoc reports or work on projects
- Excellent communication skills, including fluency in English
